Hunt Keeps Kicking Me Back to the Menu
The Back 4 Blood Beta is in full swing! But it also comes with bugs and glitches. One of them is the DISCONNECTED FROM SERVER error, regardless of the game mode (Quickplay, campaign, Versus). If you're one of them, you've come to the right place. In this post, we'll show you how to get around this issue.
Fixes to try:
You may not need to try them all; simply work your way down the list until you find the one that works for you.
- Use a VPN
- Verify integrity of game files
- Disable crossplay
- Reinstall your game
- Use mobile hotspot/ ethernet
- Disable IPv6
- Renew your IP address
- Update your network driver
1. Use a VPN
If you don't want to tweak any advanced settings, here's a simple solution for you. That is to use a VPN. Many players reported on Reddit that they can play Back 4 Blood without having issues with the server connection. So you can give it a try.
But note thatwe don't like free VPNs as they're usually a catch. A paid and famous VPN guarantees a smooth experience.
And here are some gaming VPNs we recommend:
- NordVPN (30-day money-back guarantee)
- Surfshark (7-day free trial available)
- Cyberghost (free trial available)
Although using a VPN may allow you to connect instantly, there were still some reports in the past claiming that using a VPN might result in accounts being banned. If you don't want to take the risk at the beginning, try the methods below.
2. Verify integrity of game files
When troubleshooting game issues, one of the recommended steps you should take is to verify cache files. This can help ensure that the installation of your game is up-to-date and if necessary, repair any bad or corrupted game data.
To verify your game files, follow the steps below.
1) Restart your computer and launch the Steam client.
2) Under LIBRARY, right-click your game title and select Properties.
3) Select the LOCAL FILES tab. Then click on the Verify integrity of game files… button.
Steam will verify your game's files – this process may take several minutes.
Once done, restart your game. If you're still getting the Disconnected from server error, try the next fix below.
3. Disable crossplay
If you're constantly kicked out of the game, here's a possible solution. Try to disable crossplay. It's a feature that would allow better matchmaking, but it can also create problems on the servers.
Disabling crossplay may not work 100% of the time, but a significant number of players reported that disabling crossplay helped them fix the server disconnection issue. So you can give it a shot. If that doesn't work for you, proceed to the next fix.
4. Reinstall your game
If none of the steps listed above have worked for you, consider reinstalling your game.
First, you need to uninstall the game.
Press Windows logo + R keys simultaneously to open the Run box. Then type or paste appwiz.cpl and press Enter.
Then locate your game and click Uninstall.
When the uninstallation process is completed, restart your PC and then open the Steam client. Go to the Back 4 Blood page. From there, you'll need to reinstall the game.
When you're asked to choose a location for the installation. Ensure to install the game to the boot drive. For most, it will be C:Steamsteamappscommon.
(For some, you may be prompted with a message which is about EAC, Easy Anti-Cheat asking for permission when launching the game, remember to click Yes. Otherwise, you may receive the error again. )
5. Use mobile hotspot/ ethernet
If reinstalling Back 4 Blood isn't giving you any luck, it's high time you troubleshoot your network.
For some players, the Disconnected from server error won't show up or at least they can play the game without interruptions for around one hour when they activate their mobile hotspot to let their computer connect to the internet. So you can try this if your mobile phone data package allows you.
Or you can connect to your router using an Ethernet connection and set up your Ethernet settings in Windows.
However, if your problem persists, proceed to the next fix.
6. Disable IPv6
If you're using an IPv6 protocol, try to disable it. Some players reported that it can trigger game server disconnection.
To disable IPv6, follow the instructions below.
1) On the bottom right corner of your desktop, right-click on the network icon and click Open Network & Internet settings.
2) Click Change adapter options.
3) Right-click the Internet you're using and select Properties.
4) From the list, make sure Internet Protocol version 4 is checked. Then uncheck Internet Protocol Version 6. Then click OK to apply the changes.
After you've done these, launch your game to check if your problem persists. If the error still appears, try the next fix below.
7. Renew your IP address
Renewing the IP address can allow your computer to request a new IP address from a server, which helps resolve internet connection problems.
To renew your IP address, take these steps:
1) On your keyboard, press theWindows logo key to open the Start menu. Typecmd. Right-clickCommand Promptfrom the results and selectRun as administrator.
2) Type or paste the following commands one at a time and then press Enter respectively.
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
Once done, restart your PC and then launch Back 4 Blood. If the problem persists, try the next fix below.
8. Update your network driver
A driver is an essential piece of software that lets your system communicate with your hardware. If it is outdated, it would cause noticeable performance issues. Therefore, if your network isn't working as expected, it's high time you network driver.
